Bulb Laboratories has built an ISO Class 8 cleanroom facility in the UK with a specialist overhead crane from ABUS and associated control rooms for Japan-based Astroscale’s specialist satellite manufacturing.
Bulb Laboratories, part of the Unispace Group, has designed and delivered an ISO Class 8 cleanroom facility for Astroscale.
Astroscale is a Japan-based specialist in satellite manufacturing.
Founded in 2013, Astroscale is a public orbital debris removal company that is developing satellite end-of-life and active debris removal services to mitigate the growing and hazardous buildup of debris in space.
Bulb Laboratories was tasked with designing and delivering a specialist satellite manufacturing facility, meeting rooms and associated office accommodation within three adjacent warehouse bays.
The UK-based construction company also installed three-level mezzanine floors to support the office and MEP plant requirements and built an ISO Class 8 cleanroom facility with specialist overhead crane and associated control rooms.
The creation of office and cleanroom facilities within warehouse accommodation required the design and coordination of structural steelwork and MEP services whilst minimising any impact on the existing building fabric.
The project also required delivery in a tight timeframe with market pressures increasing lead times on critical path items such as steelwork and air handling.
Careful programming of the various trades allowed for the detailed design to be finalised whilst enabling works had already commenced.
The project overall was approximately 30,000 sqft and was completed in 30 weeks.
