The project began when ASC Process Systems, faced with increasing demand for its ovens, expanded into a new building to maintain its production schedules. The company needed additional overhead cranes to meet the higher production volume, prompting them to reach out to Specht Industries. ASC had already been using R&M Materials Handling equipment in its other facilities, and wanted to stay with the same brand for uniformity in maintenance and operations.
The installation includes three 5-ton capacity bridge cranes, a 30-ton capacity crane, and two 15-ton capacity hoists, all of which are designed to handle loads ranging from 5 to 30 tons. To meet the facility’s needs, Specht Industries designed a custom solution, overcoming challenges such as a 16-inch elevation slope and larger-than-normal footings required for seismic safety. The project also required a quick turnaround, with design, engineering, and installation completed within a two-month period.
The cranes are equipped with Autec wireless remote systems provided by R&M, which allows for streamlined operations and enhanced safety. Cory Demaio, Facilities Manager at ASC, explained that the new cranes would primarily be used for the manufacturing of ovens and loading them for shipment to customers. He noted that the additional space and equipment will improve both efficiency and safety in their operations. “The addition of the new building and overhead cranes will give us the space we need to work safely and efficiently,” Demaio said.
Specht Industries, known for its high-quality service, provided a solution that included the design and installation of the full crane system, including rail systems, electrification conductor bars, and concrete work. Joe Specht, President of Specht Industries, said; “The bridge cranes are all standard, but the structure was custom. Combined, we know that it will improve their productivity and safety.”
Looking ahead, ASC Process Systems is already considering further expansions. “The future looks bright for ASC, and we may be expanding our cranes even further in the future,” Demaio added. Specht confirmed that a 10-ton capacity crane is likely to be installed in the near future to further enhance the company’s capabilities.
