Dynamic Load Monitoring (UK), a Southampton-based specialist in load monitoring equipment, has achieved a significant milestone by joining the Joint Supply Chain Accreditation Register (JOSCAR). This accreditation authorises the company to engage in aerospace, defence, and security contracts, including those managed by the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MOD) and its network of suppliers.
DLM, which designs, manufactures, repairs, and calibrates load cells and associated equipment for industries such as offshore energy, marine, and lifting, has long provided products to the defence sector. However, JOSCAR certification further solidifies its position in this highly competitive market. The company’s products, including load monitoring systems and cable working equipment, are already in use across various military applications, and the new accreditation will enhance its ability to support high-profile defence projects.
To gain JOSCAR approval, DLM underwent a rigorous application process, which included providing detailed evidence of its capabilities, followed by a comprehensive audit. The company is now eligible to work with major defence contractors such as BAE Systems, Atlas Elektronik, and Thales, expanding its reach in defence hubs across the UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Spain, and Australia.
“For years, we’ve supplied to the defence industry on a smaller scale and have some NATO stock-coded products. Now, as part of our five-year strategic plan, we aim to increase our involvement with the MOD and its contractors. JOSCAR approval is essential to access these opportunities — on some contracts, it’s a mandatory requirement,” said Martin Halford, MD, DLM.
While specific projects in the aerospace, defence, and security sectors often remain confidential, DLM is poised to offer its expertise in subsea load monitoring and deliver products like load pins and load cells for new MOD applications. Several of the company’s products, including tensile link load cells, have already been utilised in aerospace projects led by the UK’s Royal Air Force and British Army, where specialised coatings and colourations are common requirements.
Halford added: “We already have the products, manufacturing capability, and experience to serve this sector, and our track record speaks for itself. Achieving JOSCAR accreditation places us within a network that adheres to the highest standards in the industry. Given the ongoing investment in defence, we believe our background in offshore sectors positions us to provide significant value in the long term.”
JOSCAR is designed to streamline procurement processes for both suppliers and buyers in the defence sector, further enhancing DLM’s reputation as a reliable partner. This latest achievement adds to the company’s list of accreditations, including full membership in the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) and Associated Wire Rope Fabricators (AWRF). Many of DLM’s products are also IC, CE, UKCA, and FCC approved, with the company holding ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 certifications.
