The Caldwell Group has expanded its operations with the recent purchase of a 53,000-square-foot building in Beloit, Wisconsin. The facility will serve as the company’s office and training center, marking a significant milestone for the material handling and lifting equipment manufacturer.
This new site is the company’s third location, complementing its existing facilities in Rockford, Illinois. The property, situated on State Street, features a three-storey building on one side and a two-storey structure on the other. These two sections are connected by additional office space, as well as electrical and HVAC infrastructure to support the operations.
With the move, administrative staff—including finance, sales, marketing, and engineering support—have transitioned from the manufacturing plant to the new office, reflecting the company’s growth.
Over the past year, Caldwell has increased its workforce from 120 to nearly 200 full-time employees.
“It’s going to allow us to grow our company, host sales and training events, and get our business team all under one roof,” said Doug Stitt, president and CEO, The Caldwell Group. He added that the new building’s excellent condition—complete with conference rooms—allowed the company to move in immediately, surprising many who expected a longer transition.
While the company continues to finalize details like signage and security systems, the move represents something of a homecoming for Stitt, a Beloit College and South Beloit High School graduate. He also highlighted how the space gives the company’s administrative staff a facility they can be proud of, marking a departure from previous years when plant and equipment were prioritized over office investments.
The relocation has roots in the changes brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. The company had outgrown its previous office space as its administrative teams expanded, and Caldwell has become increasingly effective at working remotely.
Stitt explained that the company now operates with more flexibility, encouraging employees to be in the location that best suits their role. While the company has three locations, all within close proximity, Stitt believes that multiple sites help foster competency and reduce over-reliance on a single team or location.
The building also bolsters Caldwell’s long-standing commitment to employee training and professional development. The Beloit facility will serve as the company’s primary training center, enabling Caldwell to expand its training offerings across its product lines. Stitt emphasized that even as businesses face rising costs, investing in training remains a priority. “We look forward to building on that and expanding into different forms of training,” he said.
The new facility marks a significant step forward for Caldwell Group as it continues to grow and invest in both its people and infrastructure.
