Unirope has opened a training center at its headquarters in Mississauga, Ontario.

The 1,800 square foot facility, previously used for manufacturing, was developed to meet the growing demand for training in rigging practices and to support the company’s commitment to promoting safe lifting practices.

Construction of the center began in April 2024, and it is designed to accommodate large groups, featuring a dedicated entrance, washrooms, and a 13-foot large screen for presentations. In the near future, the center will also incorporate a lifting demonstration rig.

Justin Brown, president of Unirope, shared that the company had previously rented space for training in a neighboring building, but due to expansion works, the company has been without a dedicated facility since 2021. “The demand for training has grown, as customers increasingly seek to upskill their teams,” Brown said. “This aligns with our commitment to ensure workers return home safely at the end of their day.”

Unirope is well-known for providing training content, with its trainers holding certifications from organizations such as the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) and the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA). The company’s flagship training program, “Prevention of Rigger Mortis,” covers essential rigging practices and inspection, and it also offers product-specific training, including crane rope seminars and third-party rigger certifications.

Brown emphasized that training is not a primary revenue driver for Unirope, but rather an opportunity to share the company’s deep expertise in the field. “While there are fees for courses, they are designed to sustain the program rather than generate profit. In-person training provides hands-on experience and fosters stronger engagement, which we believe is critical for effective learning.”

The new center has already hosted several courses, and future bookings are quickly filling up. All courses are led by an experienced team of rigging consultants with strong practical backgrounds, and Unirope will also host key vendors to provide specialized product line training.
