Konecranes has secured a new order for seven hybrid Rubber-Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes from CSP Iberian Valencia Terminal. The order, booked in February 2025, is set to bolster operations at the Port of Valencia with deliveries commencing in March 2026.
The latest acquisition of Konecranes hybrid RTGs by CSP Valencia, which already operates 11 such cranes across its Valencia and Bilbao terminals, marks a continued effort by the port operator to lower emissions in container handling activities.
These cranes are claimed to offer lower fuel consumption and reduced CO2 emissions compared to traditional diesel-powered RTGs.
Equipped with features such as Active Load Control (ALC), Gantry Collision Prevention, and Truck Lift Prevention, the seven new cranes are designed to enhance efficiency and safety at the terminal.
CSP Iberian Valencia general manager Gustavo Ferrer Soriano said: “This investment is another important step in our journey towards zero tailpipe port operations. We have a very strong relationship with Konecranes, built over many years of reliable performance. The company’s hybrid technology is the solution that modern ports need.”
Konecranes’ commitment to CSP Valencia extends beyond equipment supply, with its Port Services operation in Valencia providing essential maintenance and support to ensure the durability and optimal performance of the cranes.
Konecranes, Port Solutions EMEA sales director Darryn Scheepers said: “In partnership with Konecranes, many port operators on the Iberian Peninsula and the Canary Islands are now in full transition to more sustainable operations – this is already our third agreement for the region announced in 2025.
“The growing uptake of our hybrid drive technology speaks for itself – this is the way to achieve high operational performance while reaching sustainability goals.”
This order aligns with Konecranes’ Ecolifting initiative, which aims to amplify the positive environmental impact of its products and services while assisting customers in shrinking their carbon footprints.
