Rotterdam Shortsea Terminals (RST) has placed an order for two ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and a cantilever rail-mounted gantry (RMG) with Rainbow Industrial Equipment.

The new equipment, to be installed at Waal-Eemhaven terminal, will help RST enhance its operational capabilities and sustainability.

The latest investment aims to improve vessel handling and stacking efficiency, responding to the recent increase in throughput and the trend towards larger vessels.

The acquisition is part of a larger, multi-year plan to redevelop the terminal site and part of RST’s strategy to adapt to market demands for quicker and more sustainable operations.

Rotterdam Shortsea Terminals CEO Arno Storm said: “We are pleased to take this important step in expanding our equipment and capabilities. First phase is the commissioning of the RMG by the end of 2026.

“By the end of 2027, the STS cranes will be operational making another major leap forward, increasing our terminal capabilities and enhancing our ability to handle larger vessels with even greater efficiency. This project is a key part of preparing RST for the future.”

“We are committed to ensuring that the impact on our daily activities and customer service remains minimal as we work toward the Q4 2027 target for full operational status,” said Storm. This investment marks the beginning of a broader expansion strategy aimed at securing RST’s continued success in the evolving shortsea market.
