The move, which coincides with the launch of Reid Lifting Inc in the US, is in line with the company’s stated aim of eliminating all single-use plastics from its packaging; Reid will now use a sustainable and recyclable cardboard alternative.

James Wilde, quality, health, safety and environmental manager at Reid Lifting, helped to develop the bespoke packaging solution, which comprises strong and durable cardboard containers which are easy to stack and easy to ship.

“This represents a huge step forward in reducing the environmental impact of our products,” said Wilde.“They are already made from fully recyclable aluminium and now they are being packaged in fully recyclable cardboard as well. We think this will be a really popular move amongst our customers who we know share our commitment to a greener future.”

The rigid cardboard containers are designed to give optimum protection to the products during transportation and shipping, and are available in three different packaging options, accommodating around 80% of Reid’s products in a range of standard sizes.

Furthermore, the ability to stack the boxes enables Reid to pack more products into each container and onto each lorry, whichis key to the company’s plans for expansion in the US, said Wilde: “Packed in plastic wrap, our products could only be stacked to waist height which meant we were sometimes shipping air. Now, we can stack floor to ceiling much more efficiently and significantly reduce the carbon footprint of our products as they are exported to the US and around the world.”
