Held on 6-8 February, in Hyvinkää, Finland, Konecranes invited 15 teams to develop and build new applications and services around the Industrial Internet in material handling. All over the course of 48 hours.
The aim was to combine knowledge and enthusiasm from coders and designers, and the technical experts of Konecranes, and that’s exactly what they did.
According to the manufacturer, the key idea of the IndustryHack event was to show the possibilities and get people excited around the Industrial Internet.
"We’re defi nitely looking for new outof- the-box ideas. Something, what we’ve never thought of before ourselves. Since we have so many start-ups and companies, experienced ICT people attending and developing applications with us during the weekend, our expectation level is high", explains Lasse Eriksson, program manager from Konecranes, as quoted on Industrial Internet Now.
As Industrial Internet has become increasingly common in different businesses, not only does it enable increased safety and productivity, but also offers considerable potential for new business models and solutions. Juha Pankakoski, chief digital offi cer of Konecranes, explains: "Konecranes’ main target of the Hackathon is to get new "out-of-the-box" ideas for Industrial Internet in material handling. "We also think it is a great way to network and support start-ups and small companies that are used to coming up with good solutions fast."
At the end of the event on Sunday afternoon, the results will be presented to a jury and the best innovation will be awarded. Following an intense weekend, the teams presented their work with team Valuemotive, which consisted of consisted of Kristian Ovaska and Marko Laakso, being crowned the winners.
Their suggestion focused on the customers’ challenges and included integration of ERP systems and crane operation.
"The teams presented several good and usable ideas and it was not easy to pick the winner. The jury, however, felt that the winning teams’ suggestion was very wellthrough- out and has a lot of development potential," explains Pankakoski.
They added: "Overall, productization of the presented concepts needs additional work, like all innovations do," Mr Pankakoski continues. "Further cooperation with teams participating in the Hackathon is being evaluated."
