Port Klang, a wholly owned subsidiary of NCB Holdings, will upgrade the facilities available to its conventional cargo operations at its bulk terminal and its Southpoint terminal. The investment will include new equipment to support the efficiency of its operations, such as quay cranes, prime movers, RTGs and trailers.
The port’s Wharf 16 will be developed into a multi-purpose wharf, adapting its container yard, currently suited for the use of straddle carriers, for rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) use. It will also utilise E-RTGs as part of a drive towards greater use of green technology.
Northport has already begun construction of Wharf 8A which will form part of Container Terminal 4, expected to be fully operational in July 2013.
