His role will include writing daily news content for the websites of all the cranes titles, overseeing features for the magazines and assisting group editor Richard Howes and deputy editor Will North in other aspects of the group’s editorial remit.

Pittman has a background in business-to-business journalism, having previously worked on the timber titles within Progressive Media; the Timber Trades Journal and Timber Building.

He graduated in 2006 as a student of City University, London’s renowned journalism department on the joint honours journalism and contemporary history undergraduate programme, run in conjunction with Queen Mary, University of London.

En route to Progressive Media, he worked for online news agency Adfero; reported for ITN News; and served as a trustee of Queen Mary Students’ Union at Queen Mary, University of London, a charitable organisation with a multi million pound annual turnover. This role also included responsibility for media and publishing within the union, where he relaunched the website www.qmsu.org, increased circulation of monthly publication theCub by 50% and organised and promoted a highly successful referendum on the future of QMSU.

“I’m really looking forward to broadening my horizons by working with the cranes group and learning all the ins and outs of such an important industry,” Pittman said.

“In most of the world’s cities it’s impossible to look at the skyline without seeing cranes in all directions, so there’s clearly much to learn about and report on. I’m also looking forward to working with Rich (Howes) and Will (North), who have a breadth and depth of knowledge of the industry that I can only benefit to learn from.”
