The company’s Plymouth branch will supply hundreds of Tirfor machines in a £350,000-plus deal. The Tirfor is a manually-operated piece of equipment used for lifting and pulling using a wire rope or cable. It can also be machine powered.
They will be used by the Army while on operations in the field, usually when recovering vehicles.
The MoD originally came in with an order worth £226,400 and then added a further £122,300. In addition, Cosalt will also service the equipment.
“This order strengthens Cosalt’s name as a leader in the lifting industry,” said Ian Day, the company’s operations manager in Plymouth.
Meanwhile, Cosalt’s Southampton branch is currently servicing the marine evacuation equipment on the Normandie Express.
The Brittany Ferries fast catamaran operates on the cross-Channel routes from Portsmouth to Cherbourg and Caen.
