The crane, which has been manufactured in Finland, is a Konecranes STS BoxHunter unit and will be used for loading and unloading containers from Panamax class ships.
Having been ordered in July 2007, the crane was manufactured and tested at Konecranes’ facilities in Hanko and tugged to Vuosaari on a barge.
The crane has a lifting capacity of 50t and an outreach of 38m.
The BoxHunter STS crane is equipped with the unique Active Load Control System, “which prevents loads from swaying,” said Konecranes, in addition to its Crane Management System (CMS), which monitors the crane’s productivity and condition.
“Predictive maintenance ensures safe and uninterrupted operation. The crane is also equipped with Konecranes’ dedicated AC drives for crane usage, which result in low energy consumption,” it added.
Another feature of the crane is the advanced operator guidance feature, which includes a container guidance and positioning system that communicates with straddle carriers to optimise container placement and movement.
