The event will mark the first time the World Summer Games will be held in Asia, and only the second time they will be held outside the United States. In addition to almost 7,500 athletes, Special Olympics expects the games to draw 40,000 volunteers, 3,500 event officials and thousands of spectators and journalists from every continent. Special Olympics athletes of all ability levels will compete in 25 different Olympic-type and demonstration sports.
The opening ceremony will take place in the 80,000-seat Shanghai Stadium.
Trinity Technology, responsible for the supply of technical equipment for the opening ceremony, selected Prolyte Asia Pacific to supply Prolyft hoists for the rigging equipment. Over 260 hoists, of various types, are currently being installed in the stadium.
A crew of trained technicians organised by Prolyte Asia Pacific and supervised by Project director Abraham Tso offer support for the installation of the hoists.
