“This is without doubt our biggest ever single order for wire rope, and we’re over the moon that we have been able to supply another major international games,” LS said.

The opening and closing ceremonies told the story of a young man on a voyage of discovery through Asia, guided by the stars and his Astrolabe.

The steel wire rope supplied by LS enabled the main contractor to overcome one of their greatest technical challenges ever.

Previously, LS has been involved in the opening and closing ceremonies for the Athens 2004 Olympic games, again as the main supplier of lifting equipment.

Additionally, on further projects LS assisted Stage One with specialist provision of lifting equipment for both the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games and the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics.

It has also created a supporting structure of steel wire rope to hold up what is believed to be Europe’s largest ever banner for the IOC London 2012 Evaluation Committee visit to London last February.

LS managing director Jonathan Moorhouse said: “We are now highly experienced in this type of project, having already supplied major games and projects in Asia, Australasia and Europe, as well as far closer to home.”
