The drives are specially designed for use in cranes and other dynamic applications where there is a need for accurate torque and speed control.

The Emotron VFX is said to protect cranes from damage and keeps downtime to a minimum. An integrated shaft power monitor and a patent-pending load curve protection function “immediately” detects overloads or underloads that can result in reduced efficiency or damage, over the entire speed range.

Early warnings and safety stops allow for preventive measures. A redundant system, which immediately activates the mechanical brakes if there is a risk of overload, keeps safety levels high.

The new variable speed drives allow for rapid starts and soft acceleration, even, according to Emotron, in the case of “heavy” loads, without the motor speed falling or the crane moving jerkily.

The Emotron VFX is also said to ensure that cranes move at maximum speed. Rapid and precise control of the torque and motor speed allows sudden load changes to be managed without disruptions or downtimes.
