BSRM is the wholly owned subsidiary of the H. Akberali Group of Industries – a well known conglomerate with over 50 years of experience in steel making in Bangladesh and Pakistan. The green field plant is part of the plan to dominate the local market, and the first phase will increase annual production output by 300,000t.

The process cranes have a 24t lifting capacity and are designed to handle billets and hot bundles with magnets. For increased safety and efficient handling operations the cranes also feature Konecranes’ state-of-the-art DynaFamily inverter control technology.

BSRM’s determination of acquiring the latest technology and Konecranes’ reputation among steel-producers are two of the main factors that influenced the decision to buy from Konecranes.

“We appreciate Konecranes’ regular follow-up on the project during the tender stage,” said Aameir Alihussain, managing director of BSRM. He added: “Konecranes has given us prompt support on technical and commercial matters and we look forward to a long relationship with them.”

Jimmy Chan, general manager, cranes and components, south east Asia said: “Bangladesh is an emerging market with great opportunities for Konecranes. This contract with BSRM means a lot and will enable us to further demonstrate our technology and service capacity in the region.”
