This GPS-based tracking system can find service vehicles or installation vans.
“It’ll show whether something’s being stolen, a van door’s been left open, if a vehicle is exceeding the speed limit and whether a worker needs assistance. We’re even using SMS technology, so staff can send emergency signals from their mobiles or panic alarms and be located instantly, if necessary,” said Martin Swain, managing director of the software developer Web Labs.
The company fits vehicles to be tracked with GPS transceivers programmed with a unique signature.
The company said that a simple tracking arrangement would work out about £1 a day per vehicle; ascertaining whether the back door is open would cost about £1.50. Customers must sign up for a five-year agreement, making a total of £2,740 or Euro 4,000.
