Ingersoll-Rand has developed a corrosion-resistant air hoist designed for use in the food industry. The Palair premium food grade air hoist is especially suited to handling meat and poultry products, the manufacturer says. It is available in SWL capacities ranging from 250kg to 980kg.

The hoist can be washed and steam cleaned, and is fitted with drain holes in the upper hoist body and lower hook block to drain off water after cleaning.

All metal parts in the hoist are corrosion resistant and either made of 316 stainless steel or nickel diffused or electroless nickel treated. The corrosion-resistant 316 stainless steel is used for load hooks, bottom blocks and load chains on certain models.

Nickel diffusion is used on Ingersol-Rand’s full strength corrosion resistant chains. Electroless nickel treatment is a process that plates materials with nickel that is resistant to flaking.

According to Ingersoll-Rand, this combination of stainless steel or electroless nickel hooks, hook blocks, and nickel diffused chain provides maximum spark and corrosion resistant, as required in food processing areas. Non-metal parts of the hoist are unpainted to avoid flaking into the food and the motor does not require air supply lubrication, so exhaust air is clean.

The Palair is the first hoist to be accepted by the US Department of Agriculture, by whom it is recognised as meat and poultry equipment and is listed in the FSIS Directive 11220.1.
