UK steel sections manufacturer GT Tubes has converted cab based controls for six overhead cranes to Ikusi radio remote control systems to improve safety and productivity.

The work was carried out by Professional Lifting Services under a £200,000 ($320,000) contract.

PLS has also supplied and installed Ikusi radio remote controls to the Sheffield, UK steelworks of Forgemasters, whose cranes lift forges and castings weighing up to 300t into lathes, bores and milling machines. This contract was worth £100,000 ($160,000), including a support service.

Also switching from cab based operations to remote control is Tubular Industries Scotland Ltd which prepares pipes for use in deep wells in the North Sea. Its cranes now have a Cattron IT-B (push button) system to move pipes along the processing line.
