The TL-3.0 load cells will be added to RSS’s Heathrow-based hire fleet and bolster a force measurement suite that ranges in capacity from 5t to 150t.
The tensile link load cell is likely to be hired as single units, and according to DLM is a lightweight measuring tool that combines a high level of performance with a robust design for harsh environments. With a range up to 800m and a battery life of 700 hours, the TL-3.0 can be paired with a multiple number of TW-3.0-T telemetry handheld displays.
The display is described as being a slimline, multifunctional load monitoring device that is easy to operate and designed to work in high-noise environments around powerful Wi-Fi networks or port terminals. The LCD screen is optically bonded, removing the need for a back light, and is claimed to improve clarity in bright sunlight. It can be used in conjunction with any DLM-manufactured load cell.
Other key product features include being manufactured from aerospace-grade aluminium; an ability to transmit to an unlimited number of handheld displays with up to 12 load cells; 2.4GHz licence-free frequency; a remote power on/off feature; and a sleep mode for battery conservation.
The hardware is RSS-branded, with the manufacturer saying it can meet all suppliers’ branding requirements.
The products were delivered within three days of being ordered due to having to meet a deadline for the first rental of the equipment.
Steve Hutin, managing director at RSS, said: “We selected the 12t because of an initial project that they will be hired to do, but the capacity is well-suited to a myriad of single, multiple and repeat-use rental scenarios, hence we anticipate widespread uptake.
“While several load links will be first sent to a maritime application, they will be used on construction, infrastructure, nuclear and other sites in time.”
Hutin added: “We are in a highly competitive environment that requires us to compete on all relevant facets of force measurement – availability, reliability, durability, cost, etc. Load cells are now integral to any lifting and rigging company’s offering, and DLM is a chosen world-class supplier in this specialist field.”
The load cells will be recalibrated annually by DLM. TheUK firm specialises in the design, manufacture, repair and calibration of load cells, load monitoring and cable working equipment.
