Part of a $7m outlay by terminal operator Ports America, the crane’s arrival is said to mark another important step in the port’s transition to zero-emissions technology, according to Port Technology.
The new crane, from Liebherr, will also improve operational reliability, as it is replacing one that is set to be decommissioned.
“The important addition of another Liebherr electric-hybrid mobile crane provides our customers the needed support and service for years to come and will further enhance the ongoing applications of green initiatives,” said Ports America general manager Casey Dexter.
“Ports America is committed to the Port of Hueneme and its community.”
The Port of Hueneme saw an increase of 33 per cent of cargo volumes in containers in August 2022 compared to previous year, contrary to other major ports on the US west coast.
The Port of Hueneme is the fourth-largest container port in California.
