Swiss manufacturer GIS has introduced a new monorail system, designated KB. It replaces a system developed in 1969. The hollow profile modular design has a maximum load capacity of 1.6t.
Flexibility was a design priority and options include a choice of rigid or flexible suspension for crane track and bridge sections. Curves and switches are available and there is a choice of three power supplies. Crane and trolley drives can be manual or electric. Profiles are available in two sizes: GISKB I, with a maximum load capacity of 800kg; and GISKB II with a maximum load capacity of 1,600kg.
No welding is needed for installation and the time needed for this is further reduced by using a quick turn type of fixing system. It only needs access from the top, rather than the sides as well. Trolleys have plastic wheels instead of steel for quieter and smoother running. All parts except the profile sections are galvanised as standard for protection.
