Key to handling paper reels is preventing damage to the load. British manufacturer Camlok claims to have solved the problem with its new paper reel head clamps, which have been designed for use in warehouses and factories as well as ports.
“They are particularly useful for handling reels in freight box cars, container ships’ holds and cargo storage facilities,” the company says.
The clamps have been designed to handle up to 12 rolls at a time with the use of a spreader beam. They are manufactured from high grade LM10 heat treated casting and the load is gripped by soft rubber bonded lifting pads.
Proof loaded to twice the working load limit, the clamps have a 5:1 safety factor, Camlock says.
The PR1500 model has a working load limit of 1,500kg and can lift reels of 900mm to 1,500mm diameter. The clamps themselves weigh 22kg. Camlock says that it can design clamps of other sizes too, to suit individual customers’ requirements.
