Cranes are a visible and important part of the building boom that is transforming Dubai and the Emirates, but factory lifting equipment is also in high demand in this booming economy.
For safe and efficient lifting, crane firms rely on many different sources of information, including industry codes of practice, government requirements, guidance from manufacturers, and communication with other subcontractors. For many years, though, the crane industry in the Gulf lacked a forum to meet and discuss developments in the crane industry.
Middle East Cranes 2008 brings together crane rental companies, construction contractors, crane manufacturers and dealers to hear presentations about these issues, and to discuss the future of cranes and construction in the Middle East.
There are a few notable factory crane sessions.
First, at 14.00 on day one, Keith Rainford, sales director, Ace Crane Systems, presents a paper entitled ‘choosing the right factory crane’, discussing how a good specification creates a successful installation, and maximises productivity and safety. He will also talk about decisions that buyers need to make before the specification process begins and gives examples of poor specifications and resulting problems.
This is followed at 14.30 by a presentation from Chanchal Roy, senior manager, sales and marketing, Saudi Cranes & Steel Works, who looks at crane specifications, in particular, what factory cranes destined for the Middle East need to include, environmental factors, including temperature extremes and how to develop a custom spec for your suppliers.
Allan Jones, operations director, Eastern Morris Cranes Co, takes to the stage at 15.00 to explore factory crane control systems in the Middle East. He looks at maximising the efficiency of simple cranes, the benefits of not installing computer controls, maintenance issues and case studies.
