A new wire rope lubricant has been formulated for use in extremely high temperature environments such as on charging cranes that operate in steel mill melt shops.

Wire rope not fully lubricated has only 30% of the life of a fully lubricated rope, especially when used in intense heat environments, according to wire rope manufacturer Bridon which has developed the new lubricant.

Called Permalube, the lubricant is now available on Bridon’s Endurance Dyform 8 and some Blue Strand 6 ropes, but in future it is expected to eventually become the company’s standard for ‘no-melt’ applications.
