Anew multimedia CD-Rom that provides an overview of lifting legislation in the UK has been produced by the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association.

Entitled: Your lifting equipment, legal or lethal?, the CD is aimed primarily at those responsible for the safe management of handling operations in the UK. It outlines the implications of the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) that were introduced in the UK in December 1998.

The CD runs for 25 minutes and uses both sound and video to cover topics such as buying and using lifting equipment, the new standards and the definition of a ‘competent person’. Various relevant reference documents can also be viewed and printed.

The LEEA suggests that the CD is a useful resource for training or discussion groups. It is available free of charge to UK-based companies and organisations from Derrick Bailes of the LEEA: tel: (+44) 1279 816504 fax: (+44) 1279 816524 email: derrick.bailes@leea.co.uk
