ABB has extended its M3000 range of brake motors with models featuring increased braking torque, lower noise levels and reduced maintenance requirements.

The models start at 55W, which is ABB’s smallest ever brake motor, and finishes at 22kW.

A key feature of this product is an increased disc area and stiffer connection to the motor shaft by using a polyamide hub. According to ABB, this has improved the braking torque, for instance, from 7.5Nm to 12Nm in frame size 71 (0.09kW to 0.75kW).

The new motors are available either with DC or AC operated electromagnetic disc brakes. ABB says that the AC version is better suited to applications where frequent braking is required and the DC model offers gentler brake application and allows variation of the brake actuating time.

Motors are available as: single speed (3,000min-1) from 0.18kW to 22kW; 1,500min-1 motors from 0.12kW to 18.5kW; 1,000min-1 from 0.09kW to 14kW; and 750min-1 from 0.055kW to 7.5kW.
