The double-girder CTI trolley hoist ranges in capacity from 50t at M4 duty (CTI50) to 16t at M6 duty (CTI16). With a lifting capacity de-rating has come an increased duty cycle and an increased hoisting speed. The heaviest model lifts loads up to 50t at 3.7m/min (12 ft/min), or loads up to 10t at 7.4m/min, on eight falls of rope from a double-reeved true vertical lift design. The lightest-duty model lifts loads up to 16t at 11m/min, and those under 3.2t at 22m/min, on four falls of rope.

The latter case suits one of the hoist’s main markets, power stations, and when fitted with the largest drum (leading to a width of 3,600mm (141 in)), the CTI16 model can lift loads up to 59m (193.5 ft) high.

As standard, ADC supplies an ABB variable-speed drive with flux control for hoisting, although standard travel drives are double-speed.

Although commercial manager Eric Levêque says that much industry is moving away from Western Europe, those plastic manufacturers that are staying are using larger machines, and so need larger hoists.

But he says that the hoist is designed for export purposes as a crane kit.

The hoist’s bridge beam is designed to be welded to its end carriages, an assembly method that gives the hoist a distinctive appearance. ADC engineer Florent Pontabry said that the design could be adjusted to enable a bolted connection as well.

A load cell mounted on one of the two rope terminations detects an overload, or a slack rope, as an option.

Like the company’s other hoists, the CTI series hoist consists of standard industrial components. Torque generated by a 24kw, 30kw or 37kw combined hoisting motor and brake from ABB passes through a four-stage gearbox from FAC before turning the drum. Radio controls from Ikusi and Jay Electronique, among others, are possible.

It is the largest standard hoist in the company’s range of product. Although it supplies custom open-winch cranes with up to 150t of lifting capacity, ADC’s largest standard double-reeved hoist is the AH 6/1 model, an M4 FEM duty-rated hoist that lifts 32t on eight falls with lifting heights of 10m. Its largest-capacity standard hoist is the 50t capacity FEM M4 duty AH14/G8/22 twin-hoist trolley. It uses of a new size of drum.

ADC finished the prototype of the hoist in January. Production will begin with the first order.

Pontabry said that it expects less than 50% of production will be completely standard models; the rest will include add-on options including a drum brake, condition monitoring system, load monitoring system and more.
