Demag is to supply twelve multi-span suspension cranes and two double girder overhead traveling cranes to the facility. Four of the suspension cranes have an SWL of 10t and eight have an SWL of 12.5t, with spans ranging from 16.5m to 17.5m. The two double girder overhead traveling cranes have an SWL of 10t and 27.67m spans.
The first crane will be installed in October, with the rest to be installed at a rate of one per month. The project is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2010.
The 52,300 sq m Broughton facility will house a composite wing assembly line for the A350 XWB, which is scheduled to enter service in 2013.
Demag will also install crane systems at two Airbus facilities in Germany, as part of a global tender for the A350 XWB manufacturing project.
“We are delighted to be associated with such a prestigious project,” said Andrew Clarke, CEO of Demag’s western sales region.
“Winning the contract for the supply of crane systems for production at the north factory, Broughton, and facilities in Hamburg and Nordenham further cements our excellent relationship with Airbus and consolidates our position as a global leader in the lifting equipment sector.”
