The Fleet & Industrial Supply Center, Puget Sound has a requirement for a new automated monorail system to replace an existing system located at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS & IMF), Bremerton, Washington.

The Contractor shall remove the existing Overhead Trolley System at PSNS & IMF, Bremerton, Washington and shall replace with a new Overhead Trolley System. The Contractor shall furnish all labor, management, supervision, tools, materials, equipment, incidental engineering, and transportation necessary to design, fabricate, install, and test one automated monorail system at PSNS & IMF for Government acceptance. The Contractor shall fabricate and/or assemble all components and subassemblies of the monorail system to the maximum practicable, prior to installation of the major components and assemblies at PSNS & IMF. The intent is to minimize the Contractor’s overall on-site time and space requirements in order to minimize disruption to ongoing Shipyard production activities. The entire existing monorail system, except the track support structure, is to be removed from the building and the Shipyard at the time of installation of the new monorail system.

The Contractor shall design, fabricate, install, and test the automated monorail system following the Contractors generated project schedule. The onsite equipment rip-out and installation and testing portions shall be scheduled to be accomplished within the minimum time window possible. The beginning date of this on-site window shall be approved/negotiated with the Government based on workload in the building. It is desired that the onsite window encompass the period between Christmas 2006 and New Year 2007 in order to take advantage of the Government shutdown.

Technical specifications

The new monorail system shall be installed in the areas shown in the Performance Work Statement, that will be attached in the solicitation. The monorail system shall have four electrically-powered under-running type wire rope hoists. Each hoist shall be a 2000 lb. capacity (dual 1000 lb. hooks) hoist. The hoists shall have motor operated trolleys. The monorail system shall be automated with back-up pendant controls. The new track system shall include a passivating loop, and a maintenance loop. The automated monorail system shall be designed and built in compliance with all state and federal regulations applicable to this equipment, and it shall be installed and fully operational upon completion of the project.
