CPM, based in north-east Italy, provides complete services including loading and unloading, and general port and terminal operations, specialising in a range of areas including steel and metal products, pulp and timber products, general cargo, over-sized equipment, yachts, and rolling stock. CPM develops and manages cargo traffic through the Port of Monfalcone, a key general cargo port in the Northern Adriatic.
CPM used the Elebia automatic hooks, set up on a spreader beam, for a recent project involving the handling and transportation of 2,500t of wire rod pieces to northern Africa for Gruppo Pittini. The wire rods are intended for use in applications including drawing low-carbon-content wires, products for reinforced concrete, welding wires, metal frameworks, tyres and mechanical springs.
The Elebia hooks each have a lifting capacity of 2.5t. The wire rod frames were manually engaged to the automatic lifting hooks using the spring-loaded latches, which also prevent the slings from accidentally unleashing from the hook.
Once the wire rods were on the ship’s hold, the load was released remotely using a remote control, allowing the two operators to maintain a safe distance during the unloading process.
