Although the company has an extensive range of ex-stock bow shackle load cells for next day delivery, the firm can also customise load cells for particular applications.

LCM recently fulfilled a project for a Canadian marine engineering group that required Telshack-B load cell that could measure ship-docking tension on a winch.

The wireless telemetry shackle was a selling point for the marine firm but they also specified the load cell to be shackle style that was light enough for a single operator to lift it manually.

However, it also had to be robust enough for use in an offshore and heavy industrial environment and also be wireless in order to avoid trailing cables in production.

According to LCM Systems, the supplier’s design engineers ended up producing a LCM3782 85te Wireless Telemetry Mooring Link load cell. This was manufactured using stainless steel with a compact 180T Tonsberg Mooring Link.

The load cell pin in this instance was replaced with a stainless steel pin while the wireless telemetry housing was also constructed from stainless steel. As a result, the shackle load cell was made light enough so operating the winch could be a one-man operation.

Steve Sargeant, managing director at LCM Systems, the firm always encourages customers that do not see the exact product they require, to call them with their specific applications.

"This way, if we don’t have a standard product that is entirely suitable, we can customised existing load cells or design a completely new product to customers’ exacting requirements," he added.
