The equipment will operate at SPRC’s new Contecar terminal in Cartagena, located on the Caribbean coast. The smaller equipment is scheduled to be on-site by November, and the RTGs will be operational by May of 2009. The order has been booked in Cargotec’s second quarter figures.
Kalmar’s long partnership with SPRC dates back to 1997 when it was the first terminal in the world to receive Kalmar RTGs outfitted with its autosteering and container positioning verification system, Smartrail. The new 1+6 wide and 1-over-6 high units will also come equipped with Smartrail as well as Kalmar’s Remote Monitoring Interface (RMI). The latest order for cranes will bring the total number of Kalmar RTGs ordered by SPRC to 27.
Contecar will supplement SPRC’s existing terminal operations by adding a further 3 million TEU capacity in a clean, modern and efficient facility.
The unit price for an E-One+ rubber-tyred gantry crane varies between EUR1-1.5million.
