A UK maritime centre needed a new way to lift its fleet of training ships out of the water for maintenance. The Warsash Centre, part of the Southampton Institute of Higher Education, runs training courses for masters, officers and pilots to develop their ship handling skills in a safe environment. The six scale model ships used to be lifted with webbing slings attached to a chain sling but a faster and more controlled method was needed. Certex designed and built a 2t SWL multipurpose lifting frame which is suspended from a crane for the annual removal and replacement process.
