This is the first time such a job has been carried out in Belgium and will create a roof to stop noise from the tracks affecting nearby urban areas, while minimising disruption to transport.

The tracks remain operational while the roof is built

Concrete girders used in the roof’s construction weigh 80t and are to be set every 6m. The weight of the girders means they are being fabricated on site.

To handle these heavy loads, an overhead traveling crane has been supplied by Europe Levage, equipped with two 40t capacity Verlinde Eurobloc VT5 chain hoists.

The concrete girders are moulded between the legs of the crane then lifted and fixed onto the supporting wall.

Europe Levage has also removed all external cabling from the crane, installing a generator on the bridge to make it entirely independent of the electricity network, and equiping it for remote control operation.
