Damietta Alliance Container Terminals has expanded its capacity at Egypt’s Damietta Port with the arrival of a second batch of Ship to Shore (STS) cranes, adding two to the five previously delivered.
The full complement of seven STS cranes is slated to begin operations later this year, marking a significant advancement in container handling capabilities for the port.
Damietta Alliance Container Terminals, in a LinkedIn post, said: “At Damietta Alliance, we remain grateful to the Ministry of Transport and the Damietta Port Authority for the continuous timely support we receive all the time to facilitate our mission.”
Earlier this month, the Ministry of Transport recently reported that superstructure works have begun at the Tahya Misr 1 Container Terminal in Damietta Port.
As part of the development, five quay cranes produced by Chinese manufacturer HHMC were installed. These cranes are designed to optimise the efficiency of loading and unloading processes, thereby enhancing overall terminal performance.
Engineered to manage large vessels, these cranes can lift containers weighing up to 75 tonnes and reach heights of 57.5m from the quay surface, allowing them to handle ultra-large ships stacking up to 11 containers high. With a boom length extending to 72m, they are capable of servicing some of the world’s widest container ships.
The Ministry further noted that these cranes include advanced safety systems equipped with sensors and cameras, designed to protect both personnel and machinery during operations. They are also integrated with smart port management systems, enabling real-time monitoring and efficient coordination across terminal activities.
