The 2.5t capacity DH hoist is used to lift precast concrete planks on to structural steelwork of a new bridge to the Isle of Sheppey in the UK’s Thames river. It lifts the panels from barges on the Swale river as much as 33m below the bridge deck.
The hoist is mounted on a monorail attached to a gantry system that allows travel across the 40m bridge deck and along the 1.25km (0.8 mi)-long the bridge.
