The Enviropower Ltd plant in Lancing, West Sussex is a £12.5m renewable energy facility processing biomass, typically timber and cardboard from construction and demolition activities.

Demag biomass

Enviropower’s plant processes up to 150t of biomass a day, with an output capacity of 5MW. It is completely self-sufficient in terms of energy, with the remaining 85% of produced power fed into the national grid.

The Demag crane is a 10t SWL, 13.25m span, double girder grabbing crane. It is equipped with a wire rope hoist with a 10 cu m bucket grab on a 12.4m hook path. The system has cross travel speeds of 3-30m/min, long travel speeds of 4-70m/min and hoisting speeds of 1-16m/min.

It is a fully automated system that allows continuous 24-hour operation, with an additional radio remote control for manual operation. The crane is programmed to lift biomass from the highest pile of material in the fuel store and deposit it in one of two input feeds when sensors indicate the combustors need replenishing.
