Dreggen of Norway has delivered an explosion proof EOT crane in December to Statoil for the weather deck of the Gullfaks C platform.

The crane has a capacity of 15t on single wire fall, a lifting height of 226m, and a span of 5.2m. Monitoring and positioning of the crane and hook is done with tacho generators and PLC programs designed by Dreggen.

The crane will lift parts down to the maintenance deck in the utility shaft of the platform and is also certified for transporting personnel in a basket. Safety regulations specified by FEM and the Det Norske Veritas (DNV) checking bureau for this use include an additional wire drum brake and a maximum load of 1.5t when lifting or lowering people.

Frequency controlled hoisting speed of the crane is up to 25m/min with load and up to 50m/min without load.

Based in Bergen on the coast of Norway, Dreggen has 2,000m2 of workshop and offices. Working primarily for the offshore industry, it produces electric, hydraulic, pneumatic and manually operated cranes and lifting equipment, including BOP cranes and pipe & riser handling cranes. It had annual sales of $9m last year.
