The fully-electric cranes are part of expansion and modernisation projects at the company’s Sydney and Melbourne intermodal terminals, and will be used to load and unload containers to and from trains and road trucks.

The RMGs are fitted with Konecranes’ Active Load Control (ALC) technology — designed to eliminate container sway to improve handling — as well as the manufacturer’s Truconnect remote monitoring system.

Konecranes is also covering the cranes with a service contract, reducing maintenance costs and downtime.

Pacific National’s crane project manager Rodney Burfoot said: "With the new RMG cranes and other upgrades in systems and infrastructure, we will significantly improve the capacity and productivity of our largest intermodal terminals. These cranes will be a big part of the future success of our company."
