Taisun will be used to mate the 12,000t deckbox of Schahin Group’s new SS Pantanal semi-submersible drilling rig, to the hull. The mating operation is scheduled for 25 September.
Taisun carried out a similar job in its first commercial application, mating the 14,000t deckbox of COSL Drilling Europe AS’s COSL Pioneer semi-submersible drilling rig to the hull (Cranes Today, September 2009).
“[It] demonstrates the versatility of the concept by installing a deckbox never designed to be lifted and of a different design to our previous lift,” said Niels Haakman, general manager of Taisun.
“This will be another important step in confirming Taisun’s proven technology and will build further confidence in the marketplace.”
SS Pantanal is the first of two semi-submersible drilling rigs Yantai Raffles Shipyard has been contracted to deliver to Schahin, and is the first project delivered by Haiyang Raffles, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Yantai Raffles Shipyard, which was established in April 2008.
