The evaluations were conducted by Achilles. Marked out of 100, the audit included a site visit and an evaluation of the company’s management systems.
Broken down into the three disciplines of health and safety, the environment and quality, the report focused on areas such as training, organisational structures and communication and consultation.
Hewden scored well above the average in all three disciplines.
For health and safety, Hewden scored an impressive 91.7% for its management systems and 92.1% on its site visit, against industry averages of 78.7% and 80.1% respectively.
For the environment, Hewden scored 85.7% (industry average 64.6%) for its management systems and 83.6% (industry average 68.4%) on its site visit.
For quality, Hewden scored 95.8% (industry average 76.3%) for its management systems and a staggering 100% (industry average 81.7%) on its site visit.
Matthew Colling, of Achilles, said: “Hewden has scored high marks in all areas of the audit. As a result of the site visit, we were particularly impressed with the company’s quality site performance where Hewden scored a maximum 100%.”
Tom Corrigan, head of health, safety and quality services at Hewden said: “This accreditation acts as a testament to the work that we are doing to position Hewden as an example of best practice in health, safety and environmental measures both within the workplace and on site.”
The Achilles Certification is used by many of the major utilities throughout the UK to benchmark their supplier base. Focused primarily on business critical contracts with a high emphasis on safety, health, environment and quality, the scheme provides an opportunity for suppliers and contractors to demonstrate their capability through a single standardised process.
