The major international conference Crane Safety 2005 will be held at the Hotel Okura Amsterdam on June 20 and 21. The conference, which features expert speakers on the technology and management aspects of lifting safety, includes afternoon break-out sessions on factory cranes.

The keynote address is by president of European handling standards body FEM, Heinz Helmut Kempkes. Kempkes, also MD of Kuli Hebezeuge, is speaking on the contribution of FEM to safety.

Confirmed presentations for the factory crane session include:

Thomas Hagman, senior engineer, lifting, Swedish nuclear facility Ringhals, on overhead crane operator certification

Andy Nicholson, ergonomist, Hu-Tech on the limits of manual lifting

Prof Janusz Szpytko, AGH University of Science and Technology, Poland on the Robcrane project

Walter Heinrich, region manager, DNV Sweden on condition monitoring

ABB on the benefits of frequency control

Other speakers include LEEA chief executive Derrick Bailes on managing lifting equipment, Lion Verhagen, director of Dutch crane association Vereniging Verticaal Transport (VVT), and heavy lift contractor Mammoet safety director Bryan Cronie.
