Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam has confirmed the arrival of three new quay cranes at its ECT Delta terminal.
The Zhen Hua 27, a cargo vessel, is transporting the cranes, which are designed for remote operation.
Each crane boasts a lifting height of 54m under the spreader and stands at 142m tall, with a reach capable of handling 25 containers wide. This capability ensures they can manage the largest container ships, including those with a capacity of 24,000 TEU or more.
This acquisition enhances ECT’s capacity to accommodate Ultra Large Container Ships (ULCSs).
The new quay cranes will be installed on the south side of the ECT Delta terminal at the Amazonehaven. This purchase is part of a broader investment strategy for the terminal, which also includes the introduction of hybrid automated guided vehicles (AGVs), hybrid and electric Straddle Carriers, automatic stacking cranes (ASCs), and advanced systems.
These investments aim to modernise the ECT Delta terminal and increase its sustainability. Over the coming years, the terminal is set to transition towards zero-emission equipment, with plans to implement shore power facilities.
In February 2025, Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam introduced an upgraded version of its online platform, MyTerminal, featuring new functionalities. Concurrently, the existing website underwent updates and redesigns.
MyTerminal offers full transparency into terminal operations, allowing users to optimise logistics through real-time and predictive data. The platform also facilitates easy access to additional services, all integrated within a centralised online system.
