Italkrane has sold five explosion-proof cranes for a Nigerian refinery. The 16t, 20/2t, 50/5t, 75/5t and 100t cranes have spans between 18m and 28m.
The cranes are destined for maintenance and construction duties in a refinery on Bonny Island in Rivers State, Nigeria. The cranes are headed to customer Nigeria LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd). Delivery has already begun.
All horizontal movements are controlled by frequency inverters.
The cranes also adopt a new anti-sway system developed by Italkrane that dynamically controls the motors through the inverter drive. The system can also be adjusted in the field to suit different loads.
Engineer Giovanetti claimed that the company is the only to be certified to make the frequency-controlled explosion-proof hoist drives in Europe for large cranes.
“These electrical accessories are big. They require big boxes, and the bigger the box, the larger the possible explosion, and the more difficult certification is,” Giovanetti said.
The company was ATEX-certified by French laboratory Ineris.
