Air hoist specialist JD Neuhaus has built a monorail hoist handling system designed for handling roller mills at a US cement plant. Unlike standard monorail hoists, which conventionally operate in a straight line, this system is fitted with four individual trolleys that enable it to negotiate a curved track.

The hoist is adapted from JDN’s EH 80 series, with a nominal capacity of 80t with three falls of chain. Provision has also been made for rotating the load, with the hoist below the traverse suspended in a link unit incorporating a toothed wheel operated by an air motor. Up to 270° of rotation is possible but for this application movement has been limited to 90°.

The installation has been further customised by replacing the standard lifting hook with a special load carrying device equipped with two quick-release pins.

The whole unit has a pendant controller for one-man operation.
