Konecranes has earned the internationally recognized IEC 62443-4-1 cybersecurity certification for its Port Solutions and Industrial Equipment products, which serve industries such as container handling, shipyards, process industries, and general manufacturing.

The IEC 62443 certification is a set of standards focused on cybersecurity for operational technology in automation and control systems. This achievement builds on Konecranes’ commitment to delivering safe and secure material handling solutions. It follows the company’s earlier success in securing the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification for information security.

The certification also underscores Konecranes’ adherence to both current and future cybersecurity regulations, including the EU’s Cyber Resilience Act, which introduces new mandatory security requirements for companies supplying products with digital components to the European market.

Marko Talala, director of Material Flow Solutions, Industrial Equipment, explained the significance of the certification: “With automation and the remote operation of cranes, product quality requirements have changed. It is essential to understand the associated security requirements to mitigate risks such as safety issues, operational downtime, or data breaches. The security requirements must be adhered to not only by Konecranes, but also by our suppliers.”

Hannu Oja, VP Technology for Port Solutions, added, “Cybersecurity has become one of the most important factors for critical infrastructure customers when purchasing new products and services. It’s critical that security is integrated into our product development processes from the beginning and becomes a part of our digital DNA, much like safety has been for a long time.”
