Konecranes has achieved the Cyber Essentials Plus certification, a UK government-backed scheme designed to enhance cybersecurity measures.

The certification is crucial for companies engaging with certain UK government contracts, including those with the Ministry of Defence and other regulated sectors.

Konecranes has held the Cyber Essentials certification since 2021 and indicating a move beyond self-assessments to a more rigorous, audited process.

The certification follows the company’s receipt of the IEC 62443-4-1 certification for the secure product development processes for its Port Solutions and Industrial Equipment.

The certification was awarded by IASME, an external independent assessor and the National Cyber Security Centre’s official delivery partner.

The process involved a comprehensive technical audit of Konecranes’ IT systems, ensuring adherence to high cybersecurity standards.

Konecranes UK and Ireland industrial service and equipment director Paul de Lange said: “The Cyber Essentials Plus certification and framework enhances our security, strengthens relationships with existing customers, and gives us a competitive edge, unlocking valuable business opportunities.”

Konecranes IT operations director Marc Font said: “To meet the security requirements, our IT team and UK business have been pioneering multiple processes and systems to increase automation, for instance in software updates.”

Recently, Konecranes announced the supply of 14 cranes to Japanese machine tool builder Makino for its new manufacturing facility in Hung Yen province, Vietnam.

The expansion aims to enhance Makino’s manufacturing capabilities for high-precision metal-cutting and Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) machines.

The order includes a variety of cranes, such as single and double-girder cranes, wall console cranes, a wall-mounted slewing jib crane, and a KBK workstation suspension crane.

The cranes, with capacities from 500kg to 15 tons and spans up to 17.5m, are customised to meet the facility’s operational needs.

Designed to facilitate safe material movement throughout the facility, they cover production lines, shipping areas, showrooms, staging zones, measurement areas, and storerooms.

Konecranes is currently installing the cranes, with completion expected by the end of this month.
