Konecranes has announced that it is supplying 14 cranes to Japanese machine tool builder Makino for its new manufacturing facility in Hung Yen province, near Hanoi, Vietnam.

The development is part of Makino’s expansion to enhance its manufacturing capabilities for high-precision metal-cutting and Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) machines.

The order, placed in August last year, comprises single and double girder cranes, wall console cranes, a wall-mounted slewing jib crane, and a KBK workstation suspension crane.

The cranes, with capacities ranging from 500kg to 15 tons and spans reaching up to 17.5 metres, are customised to meet the operational demands of the facility.

They are designed to ensure safe material movement across the facility, including production lines, shipping areas, showrooms, staging zones, measurement areas, and storerooms.

Konecranes is currently installing the cranes, with completion anticipated by the end of this month.

Makino Vietnam country manager Nguyen Thanh Hoa said: “Our experience working with Konecranes in other countries has shown that their extensive portfolio effectively meets the needs of all areas in our production flow.”

Established in 1994, Konecranes has expertise in material handling solutions, serving diverse customers across multiple industries.

With around 16,800 professionals in over fifty countries, Konecranes is relied upon daily to lift, handle, and move essential materials worldwide.

Recently, Konecranes acquired Polipastos y Instalaciones MEG (PIMEG), a Spain-based firm specialised in crane sales and services.

Konecranes ISE country director Mai Van Huy said: “To increase flexibility and optimize workstation accessibility in Makino’s production area, we install wall console cranes that operate below overhead cranes on a horizontal track, improving workflow efficiency and enabling precise material movement within confined spaces.”
